Meet the Team...
During the summer of 2023, Dr. Ari Martinez, Allene Henderson, Vince Weber, and Yulisa Sari Soto embarked on a journey...

Their mission was to collect data from small bird species in the Peruvian Amazon. How did they do it? With the help of some heroes...

Introducing the Mission...
Dr. Ari Martinez introduces the two main subjects of our story, Hanna the Hawk and Jasmine the Jaguarundi.

In preparation for the upcoming field season in the Peruvian Amazon, the team gets Hanna and Jasmine constructed and field-ready.

Meet the Heroes...
To collect the data they need, the team is using the help of Hanna the Hawk and Jasmine the Jaguarundi.
With these heroes, the team can access hard-to-reach places and mimic the look of a natural predator.

Jasmine's First Day
The field season is underway! Hanna and Jasmine are in Peru, and the team is scouting the areas they will visit.

Before starting the trials, Jasmine and Hanna need to be tested to see how well they perform...

Why Does Jasmine Work?
Jasmine needs to overcome the obstacles in the rainforest, like wet and muddy paths, dense plant life, and hard-to-see conditions.
So, the team gave Jasmine big wheels for the mud, camouflage to blend in, and a remote control for long distances traveled.

Fixing Jasmine
The trials have begun, and the data is being collected with Hanna and Jasmine.

However, while the team prepped everything for the season, some unexpected issues are occurring...

Why Does Hanna Work?
Hanna has to navigate through trees and branches. This requires her to be durable enough to withstand hits, but also light enough to fly.
Hanna is made from a light foam and attached to an arrow. Her wings give her the ability to glide, and her head is weighted for impact.

Flying Lessons
After a few weeks in the field, the trials are going well - and Jasmine is hard at work.

However, the team struggles to get Hanna in the air, and some intense training is required to have a successful season.
