About 300 Horses

The full 4k Version is available now...

The Greek island of Skyros is chock-full of lesser-known treasures from ancient Greek history. While having connections to significant mythological figures like Achilles and Theseus, it now houses a new story regarding a critically endangered species: the Skyrian Horse.

While the horse is solely native to Skyros, there are now only about 300 living examples. Bold efforts have sustained the species for the time being. However, land management conflicts, such as grazing rights, religious affiliation, and sustainable energy, threaten the future of the horse and the island it comes from.

CANTO DE DIOS: THE SONG OF GOD

In 2022, Eliseo (Seo) Parra, a PhD student at UCLA, led research in the Madre De Dios region of the Peruvian Amazon. There, Seo traveled to various field sites that had been affected differently by deforestation and used data collection methods, including falconry.

This research aimed to see how the type of forest affected the ability of small flock birds to communicate depending on the kind of forest. The level of selected logging determined the condition of the sites. Once chosen, the sites were split into three groups: heavily logged, lightly logged, and near pristine forests with little to no logging.
